11 tips and tricks to make your kitchen more sustainable
Zero Waste, CO2-Footprint, Green Life - all terms that revolve around one thing: sustainability. Today we want to look at what each of us can do with small steps in the kitchen to ensure that our world is preserved for generations to come. It's not about things like eating less meat, separating waste, shopping regionally and seasonally or banning coffee capsules. These topics are very important, but are now known to everyone. In the following we have collected 11 food for thought that contribute to sustainability in the kitchen on a small scale and thus make a big difference.

Tip 1
Everything starts with good planning. To avoid throwing away groceries, only buy what you really need. A weekly shopping list helps. Also, keep in mind that most products are still edible long after the sell-by date.

Tip 2
Wherever possible, avoid unnecessary packaging, such as food packed in plastic trays. In any case, take a reusable shopping bag with you when shopping and try to avoid portion packs.

Tip 3
Avoid items with palm oil and microplastics. To do this, use the app: Code Check.
Tip 4
Avoid straws.
Tip 5
Instead of cling film and aluminum foil, a break box will do. Beeswax wraps are also an ideal and hygienic alternative.

Tip 7
You can save a lot of energy when cooking: Always put the lid on the pot to heat something, always choose the stovetop so that the pan has exactly the right amount of space on it and no heat escapes at the edge.
Tip 8
Use the kettle if you want to cook pasta, for example, and only then pour the water into the pot. Reason: The kettle heats the water faster than the stovetop and therefore requires less energy.

Tip 9
Avoid kitchen rolls and paper towels. A tea towel will do too. Alternatively, there are bamboo towels.
Tip 10
Use the dishwasher instead of washing up by hand, it saves water. However, you should only turn it on when it is really full.
Tip 11
Be economical with dish soap and household cleaners, make them yourself or buy biodegradable ones.
