Private cheese dairy WOERLE: 135 years of family business and love of cheese
We're celebrating our 135th anniversary! A number we're proud of. Much has changed since Johann Baptist Woerle founded the private cheese dairy in 1889. What remains unchanged, however, is that even in the fifth generation, with Gerrit Woerle (Management), Silvia Woerle (Corporate Communications), and Sonja Kopfsguter (Corporate Health), the family remains at the heart of the company.
We love to celebrate!
To kick off numerous anniversary activities throughout the year, we held a big celebration in June for all employees and their families. With numerous games for young and old, the focus was on fun and togetherness. True to the WOERLE motto "Together we can achieve a lot!" Our company has always considered relationships with people to be the foundation of every success. This is still evident today in the fact that the majority of our employees have been with us for many years, some even in the third generation. That creates a bond!

Sustainable teamwork
When we talk about partnerships on equal terms, we also include the WOERLE farmers. They supply us with the valuable raw material from which our cheese specialties are made. Under the sustainability initiative "WOERLE CONTINUES TO WORK"We have been working with WOERLE farms for six years now to promote a sustainable circular economy. Why? Quite simply: A healthy, diverse environment and species-appropriate animal husbandry are the foundation for high-quality cheese.
Under the name “Biodiversity in the hands of farmers"Together with WOERLE farmers and numerous dedicated private households, we have already preserved 1.000 habitats for insects of all kinds in Flachgau and Mondseeland, and in some cases even created new ones. The stated goal is to increase this number to 2030 habitats by 5.000. Every habitat, no matter how small, counts! We invite everyone to participate in the project! Join in and register your habitat!
With the second major lighthouse project “Regional CO2-reduced“We strive to work with our dairy farmers to reduce the annual carbon footprint of our cheese specialties – with the help of a unique rewards program and other incentives.

Surprise! Our anniversary edition
To mark its 135th anniversary, WOERLE is launching a retro edition of the popular Hay milk Emmentaler This cheese was the first to be produced 135 years ago according to the recipe of the company's founder, Johann Baptist. Today, the WOERLE range includes almost 100 different cheese recipes. Of course, we are also constantly working on new product ideas and recipes. For example, this spring we launched WOERLE High-Protein Processed Cheese Slices for fitness-conscious people – highly recommended!
We are also proud of the international reputation our company has made over 135 years: Under the brand “HAPPY COW"Our products are known and loved in over 70 countries. Expanding into new markets and expanding our product portfolio are important goals for the company.
Looking ahead
No one knows the future. However, we can already predict: WOERLE will remain committed to producing high-quality natural and processed cheese products. Annual product innovations are our clear goal, and further hay milk cheese specialties are already in the planning stages. You can also look forward to the expansion of the cream and processed cheese division! The three Woerle siblings are determined to lead the company into a sustainable and successful future, continuing to uphold family values and the close bond with our employees as core values. We want the family spirit to be palpable at WOERLE. Our employees, our agricultural partners, trading partners, and customers can continue to rely on us. No one knows the future.
