Six medals at the World Cheese Awards: What's behind our success
At the 2025 World Cheese Awards, WOERLE was awarded six medals – a strong signal in international competition. Two silver and four bronze medals for 12 submitted cheeses demonstrate that our approach, based on the finest hay milk, meticulous craftsmanship, family tradition, and modern cheesemaking, is gaining worldwide recognition. In addition, five more medals at the International Cheese Olympics are a clear mark of quality for our hay milk cheese.
At the end of November 2025, the world's best cheeses were honored at the 37th edition of the World Cheese Awards in Bern. Around 5.000 cheeses from 50 countries were judged by a large international panel of experts. The tasting was conducted blind, and the cheeses were evaluated on appearance, rind, texture, aroma – but above all, taste and mouthfeel.
Of the 12 cheeses submitted in 2025, six received awards. The awards demonstrate the range of our product range – from mature mountain cheese to creamy fresh cheese:

WOERLE is a fifth-generation family business. Since Johann Baptist Woerle laid the foundation with his Emmentaler recipe in 1889, much has changed – from artisanal cheesemaking to modern production with high quality assurance and an international focus. One thing, however, has remained the same: our commitment to making high-quality cheese from the finest hay milk.
Today in Henndorf, we process fresh hay milk from local family farms. We have worked with many of them for generations. These partnerships, the experience of our employees, and modern cheesemaking technology together form the basis of our success – in Austria and in many countries around the world, where our cheeses are sold under brands such as... HAPPY COW Tobe offered.
Sustainability strategy WOERLE CONTINUES TO HAVE AN EFFECT Let us state what we stand for: respect for people, animals and nature, responsibility for the region, and thinking in cycles. Only if we act sustainably from the soil to the cow and the milk to the finished cheese can future generations also enjoy the best hay milk cheese.
The six awards at the World Cheese Awards and the five medals at the Cheese Olympics are therefore more than just trophies for us. They are a sign that our approach – characterized by hay milk quality, craftsmanship, family tradition, innovation and responsibility – is successful even in international comparison. WOERLE CONTINUES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
