Carnival party - but please with cheese
"Here the holes are about to fly out of the cheese, because now our polonaise is about to start..." Who doesn't know this carnival song? And that's exactly what this blog post is about: Carnival and how you can make it even more colorful with "cheesy" ideas.
The carnival is just around the corner or carnival as our dear neighbors say. Did you know that the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans held masked balls and parades to put an end to winter? However, the word Fasching comes from the Middle High German word "Vaschanc". It described the last serving of alcohol before Lent. The word "carnival", on the other hand, comes from the Latin, "carne vale", which roughly means "meat farewell". Today, Cologne, Rio de Janeiro and Venice are carnival strongholds. But no matter how and where carnival is celebrated - delicious appetizers should not be missing.
Funny snacks for the carnival party
It doesn't always have to be donuts: how about sprinkled donuts for a change? To do this, simply mix a donut batter from eggs, sugar, oil, flour and milk, fill it into the hollows of a donut tray with a piping bag and bake. Then spread a icing of icing sugar (you can also use food coloring) on the cooled donuts and sprinkle them with plenty of sprinkles. Looks great and tastes big and small.
Refined and a real eye-catcher: the cheese and vegetable clown
As far as the sweet part. Make your mouths really open with this savory snack: a funny clown made of vegetables and cheese. It's basically a cheese board shaped like a clown's face. First you cut the vegetables (cucumbers, kohlrabi and carrots) into long strips. Then you cut the cheese into small cubes. Almost any sliced or hard cheese is suitable for this, such as our WOERLE Mountain cheese made from hay milk or the WOERLE Mondsee or a mild one Emmentaler. It is best to use three different types, so there is something for every taste. Now you start laying the clown. First you fill a sour cream dip in two small bowls and put an olive in each as a pupil. You place the bowls on a wooden board or a serving plate. Then comes the nose in the shape of a tomato. Then you distribute the cheese cubes around it in the shape of a face. Now we need radishes: they will become the clown's hair on the right and left of the face. You make your mouth out of strips of red pepper, your eyebrows out of green ones. Now the hat is missing: Use the green cucumber strips for this. Then you spread grapes under your face as a collar. Finally, you put the carrot and kohlrabi strips under the collar in the form of a T-shirt. This fun work of art makes eating vegetables fun even for the kids.
Fast and light and still healthy: the cheese hedgehog
No less healthy, but much easier is a cheese hedgehog with fruit and vegetables. You need a cantaloupe for the body of the hedgehog, a few cocktail tomatoes, pickles, red and green grapes, raspberries and blueberries and of course delicious cheese. You can use any semi-hard or hard cheese that you like, for example our WOERLE Tilsit or our new one Heurome. Cut it into cubes of about XNUMX cm. For the hedgehog body, you should flatten the melon on one side and place it on a plate. Now take the pieces of cheese and poke a piece of fruit or vegetable on each one with a toothpick. Then stick the toothpicks into the melon until it is completely covered. This goes well with savory biscuits.
Fancy and simple: cheeseburger muffins
How about something crazy? These muffins are hearty and a really unusual finger food. And if you use pre-baked roll dough, it's really quick. Line the muffin molds with the thinly rolled out dough. Fill the dough pieces with minced meat fried in onions and tomato paste and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes. With cucumbers, WOERLE American toast slices and ketchup decorate.

Costume and decoration: all cheese?
The buffet is now taken care of, only the costume is missing. Of course we think of cheese again. A cheese costume is basically conjured up quickly. All you need is a piece of yellow fabric in which you cut large holes. Paint the face yellow and you have an unusual carnival costume.
And here's another great upcycling idea: Make a clown mask out of an empty processed cheese box. You can find the video for it here.
In this sense: Lei, Lei and a fun carnival season to all of you!
