Double knife mowers for more variety
Biodiversity plays a central role in our sustainability strategy. Together with the farmers of the region, various measures are implemented to preserve and promote biodiversity in nature and to reduce emissions that are harmful to the climate. Technical innovations in agricultural equipment are also used.
Biodiversity in nature is very important for the functioning of ecosystems. This biodiversity also ensures that our hay milk cows get the best feed in the region, and that in turn is a prerequisite for the quality of our hay milk cheese specialties. That is why we are actively committed to the preservation and protection of biodiversity and also work intensively with our hay milk farmers. In addition to various individual measures on the farms, biodiversity can also be promoted through the use of innovative equipment. One possibility is the use of a so-called double blade mower.
Double blade mower for more biodiversity
With a double blade mower, both blades run in opposite directions. This mowing technique, which was used in its basic form as far back as the 1970s, is now in demand again thanks to technical improvements. Why? Because it brings both economic and ecological benefits. In contrast to rotating blades, the cutter bars cause significantly less damage to the animal population in the grassland. As a result, significantly more insects such as grasshoppers, spiders, bugs, wild bees, butterflies and caterpillars survive. The minimal ground pressure and the straight cut results in faster regrowth and also clean forage.

Less CO₂ emissions
However, double blade mowers are not only a benefit for biodiversity, they also save CO at the same time thanks to the lower diesel consumption2-Emissions. This also reduces the CO₂-Footprint of the milk and consequently of the WOERLE cheese smaller. And for our hay milk farmers, this means additional financial benefits in the form of bonuses, which we use the CO2account for each tonne of CO saved2 paid out. In summary, a classic win-win situation for the environment, for farmers and for WOERLE.
