Food Trends 2023

How will we eat and drink in 2023? What is the industry talking about? And what role does cheese play in this? We have the answers. 😊

No one can ignore the topic of nutrition. The fact is: it affects us all on a daily basis and the topic is more omnipresent than ever before. The following topics are currently playing a major role:

  • Sustainability
  • New Glocal
  • Snackification

But why are there actually food trends? They analyze and describe the current food culture and future nutritional developments. They also give answers to current problems related to our diet and offer suggestions for solutions. Above all, however, they are a reflection of our time and show the needs and desires of society.

Food trend sustainability

The trend towards sustainable nutrition is still unbroken. Sustainability in relation to food means, among other things, environmentally friendly cultivation, careful soil management, improved packaging, reduced meat consumption. More and more people are paying attention to the regional origin of food. Seasonal food is also becoming increasingly important: Strawberries and blueberries taste best fresh from the bush in summer. For WOERLE, sustainability means 360 degree circular economy. It is the basis for an intact nature and this results in the best hay milk cheese. Biodiversity and insect-friendly farmed hay milk meadows are part of the circular economy. Healthy soil and clean water are also part of it. Cows kept in a species-appropriate manner and sensible packaging complete the circle. You can find out more here: https://www.woerle.at/wirktweiter/360-kreislaufwirtschaft/.

Food Trend New Global

The second trend also has to do with sustainability. The corona pandemic and the Ukraine war have shown one thing: the global food system is on the brink. There is an urgent need for shorter and more transparent supply chains that are geared towards their own domestic markets. That would avoid global dependencies and bottlenecks and relieve our domestic producers of the enormous price and performance pressure. "New Glocal" is therefore the answer to the desire for a meaningful relationship between locally produced and globally imported food. Regional availability is more important than the low price. And where international imports are still important, fair trade and transparency are used.

Food Trend Snackification

The third trend is about the way we eat. For our parents, breakfast, lunch, and dinner were sacred, and snacking was considered unhealthy or an added reward. But we have known for a number of years: less is more. The so-called snacks, i.e. small meals, are increasingly replacing the classic way of eating. Our eating behavior thus adapts to our fast and flexible everyday rhythm. Most importantly, these mini-meals don't mean unhealthy munchies or greasy fast food, but healthy meals that are nutritious, convenient and filling.
