Trainees traveling sustainably in the region

This year, the sustainability management was again supported by interns from Flachgau. "Regional CO2 Reduced" and "Biodiversity in Farmers' Hands" are WOERLE's flagship projects, which we were allowed to work on as part of our internship in summer 2022.

Interns at the Woerle cheese dairy

Who are we? Magdalena Altenberger, Katharina Buchner, Magdalena Mösenbichler, Andreas Pichler and Johannes Spitzauer. We are pupils and students from the Flachgau and the preservation of the region is very important to us, which is why we decided to do an internship at the company Gebrüder WOERLE Ges.mbH.

climate protection project

One of our tasks was to inform the participants of the WOERLE climate protection project to drive. On site, we recorded all the necessary data on the energy-saving measures that had already been implemented, so that the experts could then calculate the emission savings. During the visits we were able to take away a lot of knowledge about climate protection measures on farms and it was always very interesting to talk to the farming families. The reduction of ammonia emissions is also an issue in agriculture. Here Johannes was fully committed and responsible for measuring the pH value at the companies.

biodiversity project

For the WOERLE biodiversity project we visited the farms together with a biologist and documented new "life rafts for biodiversity". We have captured some special features for you in the gallery below in great photos to show what contribution the farmers in Austria's largest contiguous hay milk region make to biodiversity. Magdalena and Lena are also writing their diploma thesis for the Matura on the subject of "neophyte management", which is why we fought the Indian balsam at some companies and tried to see whether something great could be done with the plant. After some experimentation we managed to make jam, chutney and syrup from the flowers. We then presented the products to the WOERLE team and tasted them together with cheese 😊

(By the way: Magdalena is one of the winners of the Talent Internships 2022, we warmly congratulate her.)

Holiday Program

The children's holiday program offered us a nice change, which WOERLE organized for Henndorf schoolchildren for the first time. There we gave the little "cheese masters" a lot of knowledge about milk, cheese production and agriculture in general. All the children were very inquisitive and were allowed to lend a hand, for example with making cream cheese or milking the rubber udder.

We would like to thank WOERLE for giving us such a deep insight into the company's sustainability strategy. The internship was very varied and it was always exciting to drive to the farms. We were able to gain a lot of new experience ourselves and at the same time make a contribution to climate protection and species protection.

Your Magdalena, Lena, Katharina, Andreas and Johannes
