Pack your swimming trunks! Summer picnic ideas for a day at the lake

I pack my beach bag and take with me: a towel, sunscreen, a picnic blanket and lots of delicious provisions! But which snacks are best to take away when the temperatures are hotter? Which meal requires fewer dishes? And what is the best way to transport everything?

When you have a picnic, you combine two of the most beautiful things in everyday life: delicious food and time in the great outdoors. Especially on a day at the bathing lake, a picnic is a good idea, after all splashing around makes you hungry and the selection of dishes in the lidos is usually quite poor. But what can you take to the lake? If you are only thinking about sandwiches, you should definitely read on. A picnic can be so varied, but it needs to be well thought out.

Which food passes the heat test?

Trail mix or muesli bars are good for snacking between meals. Children don't want to sit with their plate on the picnic blanket but want to run around, so any kind of finger food is ideal. How about sandwiches and wraps, preferably wrapped in sustainable beeswax wraps? Also mini quiches, puff pastries and savory cheese muffins, for which our WOERLE Emmental made from hay milk or ours WOERLE Salzburg corner perfectly suited. A salad is also part of the picnic, but lettuce quickly becomes baggy. You should also avoid dressings with mayonnaise or yoghurt. A pasta salad, rice salad, or couscous salad makes a better picnic companion, best carried in a mason jar. Vegetable and cheese skewers, nachos with cheese dip or small schnitzel also cut a fine figure.

Can it be something sweet?

In addition to all the delicious hearty dishes, the sweet component should not be missing. How about fresh grapes, peaches, apricots or cherries? Melons and apples, cut into wedges or cubes, are also wonderful. A little tip: If you sprinkle the fruit with lemon juice, they stay fresh longer. Of course, cakes and muffins are also suitable as a sweet finish - ideally with a good cup of coffee. Speaking of coffee: Drinks are very important at a picnic. Whether it's hot coffee or chilled juice - the drink stays at the desired temperature in a thermos flask. Suitable cups are those with a lid so that you don't accidentally drink a wasp.

I pack in my bag

And how do you transport your picnic? A cool box is essential, so everything stays nice and fresh. You could wrap dishes such as plates and cutlery in tea towels. Or you can use light and unbreakable materials such as bamboo crockery and cutlery. Sensitive things go on top in the cooler bag or in the picnic basket. Tip: Pack desserts well so that no ants or wasps are attracted.
