Practice day "Pasture"

When the animals are fine, the people are fine! Between stable and pasture

With an average of less than 25 cows per farm, our small-scale dairy farms maintain an individual and personal relationship with the animals. And that is important - because the well-being of the animals has the highest priority for our hay milk farmers. For this reason, our milk suppliers also regularly take part in training courses, seminars and practical days on the subject of animal care and animal health.

In September, the focus was on the most important basics and management measures for successful grazing of dairy cows and the possibility of optimization. Speaker Stefan Rudlstorfer (organic advisor to the Upper Austrian Chamber of Agriculture) brought a lot of knowledge about different grazing strategies, systems and species and answered the questions of the interested participants.

Did you know that cows are sensitive to heat and will avoid the heat if possible?
Night grazing is sometimes a good way for our farmers to give the cows stress-free grazing in summer when it is very hot during the day or there are many insects such as horse flies. When it's hot, cows prefer to eat in the cooler evening hours and can thus cover their need for fresh grass and herbs on the pasture better than during the day. So don't be surprised if there are occasionally fewer cows in the pasture when you take a walk during the day in summer.
