Practical workshop "Nestkastenwerkstatt"

As part of the practical workshop "Nestkastenwerkstatt". for wagtails, redstarts and other native breeding birds carpentered, screwed and built.

Decline in birds on our meadows and pastures

Their chirping once filled the landscape, but now it's getting quieter. Many species of birds native to Austria are almost non-existent. One in eight bird species worldwide is threatened with extinction. Above all, climate change with its rising temperatures or changing land use is really messing up the bird world and leading to the loss of habitat and food. But what if there were no more birds?

Birds are so closely and diversely integrated into our ecosystems that they are indispensable for ecological balance. They connect habitats, resources and biological processes. In addition, they are, for example, important pollinators of fruits, seed transporters or natural enemies of pests.

Our Woerle milk suppliers work with and in nature every day. They need and benefit equally from functioning ecosystems and are dependent on preserving natural resources and diversity in order to secure the vital services of nature.

WOERLE Farmers as active living space designers

As part of the federal, state and EU funded project "We build (r)n for diversity", in which WOERLE is a project partner, our farmers went together with us and the at the end of October ÖKL on a trip into the world of birds in the most beautiful autumn weather.

Nesting opportunities for native breeding birds, such as wagtails, redstarts or even the rare hoopoe - under the guidance of speaker Michael Wirtitsch, the carpenters and screws were diligently built - the result was various nesting boxes that everyone was allowed to take home to increase the variety of birds on their own farm support financially. Many thanks to the speakers and all participants for this instructive and active practical day!
