Sustainable picnic in the countryside
Eating in the fresh air and listening to the background noise of chirping birds and chirping crickets: A picnic in the countryside is an alternative to going to the swimming pool. And those who love nature should also treat it with respect. That's why we're giving you tips for a sustainable picnic in the countryside today.

- The best thing to do is to start with an extra portion of sustainability when you arrive and cycle to the picnic area or walk.
- In order to avoid packaging waste, you should avoid convenience products and resort to self-righteous products. It is best to orientate yourself when choosing the ingredients according to the seasons and choose seasonal products. There is currently a large selection of fruit and vegetables such as strawberries and radishes. How about fine fruit skewers?
- Filled breads, cheese, quiches, meatloaf, vegetable sticks with homemade dips, salads with bulgur or couscous with vegetables are easy to take away. You can easily store the latter in a sealable jar.

Even more tips
- You can wrap the loaves in an oilcloth. This is the best recyclable alternative to aluminum foil or cling film. Oilcloths are available from various suppliers. You can also make them yourself from leftover fabric and beeswax candles. Lunch boxes made of stainless steel are also suitable for transport.
- There are also alternatives to disposable tableware, such as reusable, unbreakable bamboo tableware. Or you can simply take your own cutlery and a few plates with you, they are not that heavy.
- If, when choosing a picnic spot, you make sure that there is a drinking water fountain nearby, you save yourself having to take water bottles with you. Otherwise, the following applies here: stainless steel and glass instead of plastic!
- Please also refrain from using plastic straws: it can take up to 500 years for them to decompose, and even then microplastics remain in the soil.
