WOERLE and the Spürnasenecke promote sustainable thinking

In the Sighartstein kindergarten in Neumarkt am Wallersee, little researchers are at work and enthusiastically experience how many exciting things can be discovered through experimentation. This is made possible by the "Sniffing Corner", which was recently officially handed over by WOERLE. With the support of the educational project, the Henndorfer Privatkäserei wants to promote sustainable thinking from a young age.

You can literally feel the joy and enthusiasm in the Sighartstein kindergarten in Neumarkt am Wallersee when the young researchers discover new things there and have exciting "aha moments". This is made possible by the new "Spürnasenecke" and also by the WOERLE cheese dairy, which has been actively supporting the successful educational project since 2020. The sniffer package was handed over in November of the previous year, now the official handover took place with a delay due to corona. “Sustainable management and taking responsibility in the region have been central promises at WOERLE for generations. When it comes to raising awareness, we therefore start with the youngest, because the long-term success of our sustainability initiatives definitely requires the generation of children who pass on these efforts for an intact nature," explains Managing Director Gerrit Woerle, explaining the reasons for the commitment the Henndorf private cheese dairy.

In addition to equipping the kindergarten with the Sensing Corner, WOERLE also enabled the further development of the entire project in the areas of biodiversity and food production. For this purpose, special experiments and practical exercises were jointly developed in order to make concepts such as sustainability and biodiversity understandable and tangible for the children in an age-appropriate way. At the time of the handover, a flower strip was laid out for a flower meadow, which is intended to promote biodiversity in both plants and animals. The necessary utensils and explanations were included in the WOERLE nose case.

Learn by experimenting and discover your own talents

The "Spürnasenecke" supports the innate curiosity and natural enthusiasm of children by arousing their interest in nature and technology in a playful way. When experimenting, the little ones learn to understand scientific connections and facts under expert guidance. The practical exercises are about, for example, guessing food by smelling it, getting vitamins in food or even how to make cream cheese yourself. And the little ones can also discover their own talents and interests.

The initiative for early childhood support includes a mini laboratory with specially developed furniture, numerous research utensils and a manual with more than 80 child-friendly experiments from the MINT area (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology). In ongoing training courses and network meetings, the educators are trained to explain the facts as best as possible and to be prepared for all the children's questions.

The flagship project was launched ten years ago, there are now more than 80 sleuthing corners - 15 to 20 more are to be added this year. The constant further development is made possible by the W&H Dentalwerk Bürmoos as the main sponsor. Since 2020, WOERLE has been supporting this important educational project alongside other sponsors from business and the public sector. And Gerrit Woerle is already revealing: "It will certainly not be the last sniffing corner that we will hand over to the dedicated young researchers!"
