Sustainability in everyday life
The basis of our success is an intact nature. She gives us what we need to make our delicious hay milk cheese. To protect them, we practice 360° sustainability.
And this is what the many aspects of sustainability look like in everyday life at WOERLE:
Human beings
They are the basis of our success. Our dairy farmers represent the long tradition of dairy farming in Mondseeland. Some of them have been dedicated to dairy farming for generations and provide us with the valuable hay milk for our cheese specialties. The milk is processed and marketed by our approximately 350 employees.
Great biodiversity
Species-rich hay meadows offer valuable sources of food and refuge for bees, butterflies and small animals. Through our project “Species diversity in farmers' hands” we supplement this with a wide variety of edge structures, such as rainwater, field paths, embankments or dead wood, which play a crucial role in biodiversity and ecological balance.
soil and water
The biodiversity above the ground significantly influences the diversity below the ground, which has positive effects on climate protection and our regional agriculture. One hectare of land contains 15 tons of soil organisms, which is equivalent to the weight of 20 cows. Clean water is not only a staple food, but also an essential production tool for the dairy industry.
Resource and climate conservation
We use as few resources as possible, rely on renewable energies and effective waste management. With our project “Regional CO2 reduced” we support energy saving measures in agriculture. In this way, we are reducing CO step by step together with our dairy farmers2-Footprint of our WOERLE cheese specialties!
The best forage
The natural nutritional basis for hay-dairy cows is species-appropriate grass feeding. This type of feeding is the most original and has been passed down for generations. In summer, hay-dairy cows enjoy the best of the meadows: lush grasses, flowers and aromatic herbs. In winter there is hay and some mineral-rich grain meal. The food comes 100% from Europe, without the use of soy from overseas. Fermented feed such as silage is strictly prohibited.
The cow
The well-being of our cows is particularly important to us. Our farmers personally dedicate themselves to the well-being of their cows all year round. As part of Arge Heumilch's cow welfare initiative, we implement targeted measures; hay-milk cows are kept in a species-appropriate manner, enjoy at least 120 days of exercise or pasture and high-quality feed.
Healthy hay milk
Hay milk gtS – a guaranteed traditional specialty, guarantees even more quality and authenticity. A special protection that ensures the traditional manufacturing method. The hay milk we use comes from farmers within a 50 kilometer radius of our cheese dairy, so it is always processed fresh.
The product
Our hay milk cheese is free of genetic engineering and palm oil, is completely natural and the raw materials used come exclusively from the region. As a family business, it is important to us to promote local agriculture and support the traditional small farming structures in our region.
Sensible packaging
Our cheese packaging ensures optimal product protection and the desired shelf life. We are actively committed to switching our packaging to recyclable materials where possible. The aim is not only to offer our customers high quality cheese in the future, but also to guarantee environmentally friendly packaging solutions.
